Sustainability begins with a thought, and if the thought is transferred into matter and materializes, its communication with people/the public strengthens. Then, if it succeeds in influencing the entire city, that’s when it becomes a center, the center of its sphere of influence, and that’s when we have truly designed a sustainability center.

İzmir is a geography of rich ecological diversity, shaped by its long coastline, vast seas, natural forests, towering mountains, river basins stretching through valleys, and wetlands. As vital as possessing this natural heritage is the responsibility to protect and sustain it for the future. The global climate crisis of the 21st century poses an increasingly pressing threat to İzmir, as it does to many regions around the world.

As vital as possessing this natural heritage is the responsibility to protect and sustain it for the future. Throughout the site, native plant species of İzmir that require minimal water have been used. The rural fabric is extended into all green spaces within the area, aiming to create a seamless integration of rural and urban elements.

Open spaces forms a landscape fabric with no defined boundaries—one that encourages contact with nature, teaches the sustainability of biodiversity, and is supported by spatial arrangements that embody these principles. This landscape supports four key elements of İzmir’s nature-based living strategy: reintegrating nature into the urban environment, enabling people to settle in rural areas in harmony with nature, promoting and teaching new production methods to encourage a circular economy, and strengthening the ties between urban and rural life.
